درحقیقت مغربی افریقہ سے باہر اس کے واقعات بہت کم سامنے آئے ہیں اور اچھی بات یہ ہے کہ خشک آب و ہوا والے علاقوں میں چند گھنٹوں سے زیادہ زندہ نہیں رہ سکتا اس لیے جنوبی ایشیا میں اس کے پھیلنے کا امکان بہت کم ہے تاہم سیال جیسے خون میں یہ کئی روز تک زندہ رہ سکتا ہے اور مریض کے بہت زیادہ قریب رہنے والے افراد میں منتقل ہوکر آبادیوں میں پھیل سکتا ہے۔

تاہم سوال یہ ہے کہ یہ وائرس ہے کیا؟

ایبولا انسانوں اور جانوروں میں پایا جانے والا ایک ایسا مرض ہے جس کے شکار افراد میں دو سے تین ہفتے تک بخار، گلے میں درد، پٹھوں میں درد اور سردرد جیسی علامات ظاہر ہوتی ہیں اور وہ قے، ڈائریا اور خارش وغیرہ کا شکار ہوجاتے ہیں، جبکہ جگر اور گردوں کی کارکردگی بھی گھٹ جاتی ہے۔
مرض میں شدت آنے کے بعد جسم کے کسی ایک یا مختلف حصوں سے خون بہنے لگتا ہے اور اس وقت اس کا ایک سے دوسرے فرد یا جانور میں منتقل ہونے کا خطرہ بہت زیادہ ہوتا ہے، درحقیقت اسے دوران خون کا بخار بھی کہا جاتا ہے اور جب خون بہنے کی علامت ظاہر ہوجائے تو مریض کا بچنا لگ بھگ ناممکن سمجھا جاتا ہے۔
مگر صرف خون نہیں بلکہ پسینے، تھوک اور پیشاب سمیت جسمانی تعلقات وغیرہ سے بھی یہ ایک سے دوسرے فرد میں منتقل ہوجاتا ہے، بلکہ ایسا مرد جو اس مرض سے بچنے میں کامیاب ہوجائے اپنے مادہ تولید سے یہ مرض دو سے تین ماہ تک اپنی بیوی میں منتقل کرسکتا ہے۔
کہا جاتا ہے کہ چمگاڈروں کے ذریعے یہ افریقہ میں پہلے جانوروں اور ان سے لوگوں میں پھیلنا شروع ہوا اور ایبولا کے شکار افراد کی بڑی تعداد ایک ہفتے میں ہی دنیا سے چل بستے ہیں۔
اگرچہ ابھی تک اس کا کوئی موثر علاج دستیاب نہیں تاہم بیمار افراد کو ہلکا میٹھا یا کھارا پانی پلاکر یا ایسے ہی سیال مشروبات کے ذریعے کسی حد تک بہتری کی جانب لے جایا جاسکتا ہے۔
یہ مرض 1976 میں سب سے پہلے سوڈان میں ظاہر ہوا تھا اور 2013 تک اس کے صرف 1716 واقعات سامنے آئے تاہم رواں برس یہ مغربی افریقہ میں ایک وبا کی شکل میں سامنے آیا اور گیانا، سیریا لیون، لائبریا اور نائیجریا اس سے سب سے متاثر ہوئے ہیں اور اس کی ویکسین کی تیاری کے لیے کوششیں تیز کردی گئی ہیں۔
اب تک یورپ کے ملک اسپین اور امریکا میں بھی اس کے ایک ، ایک کیسز سامنے آئے جس کے بعد سے دنیا کے دیگر علاقوں میں بھی خوف کی لہر پھیل گئی ہے۔

ایبولا چار طریقوں سے ایک سے دوسرے فرد میں منتقل ہوسکتا ہے، پہلا مریض سے قریبی تعلق اس میں مبتلا ہونے کا خطرہ بڑھا دیتا ہے۔
